After technical problems in the 3rd stage, Gert Huzink, the pilot of the North Bohemian truck from the workshop of the MKR Technology team, is winning again. He completely owned the penultimate stage.
As in the previous day, there were no large sandy sections on the menu. It is more like calm before the storm, before the final stage. The participants on the stage of almost three hundred and forty kilometers had to overcome several smaller ergs, i.e. sand deserts with moving dunes. The organizers focused on connecting the new parts with historical sections of the past and navigation was expected to be the most important factor. However, it turned out that the technical difficulties of other crews changed the results completely. Ranking has been reshuffled again. While Gert Huzink and the North Bohemian Renault drove a flawless ride this time and took less than five hours to win the stage, the leading driver - Czech pilot Martin Macík – got into situation as Huzink the day before. Macík returned prematurely to the bivouac with a cracked fuel tank, and boys from the Riwald Dakar team and MKR Technology helped him to weld it. "We are pushing as hard as we can, but we are safely trying different settings. Then it simply happens that a problem comes. But no one is taking any risks and we would rather return the same was as Martin did today. It is a valuable preparation for Dakar for everyone and the organizers take it that way as well. The result in Morocco is simply not significant. But we are happy no less with today’s victory," smiled Mario Kress, lead designer of the MKR Technology team and Huzink's Renault Trucks C460 hybrid truck.
Now there is only the final 5th stage with a total length of four hundred and forty-four kilometers, including almost three hundred kilometers of special sections. "The boys would like to stay at the race venue for a few days more, drive and do as much testing as possible. Everyone is tired, but it’s showing how valuable is the time spent here, so we'll see," said Mario Kress.
