Dakar begins with three MKR trucks on the start

2.1.2017

Dakar begins with three MKR trucks on the start It is finally here! The famous Dakar rally has started and three trucks from MKR Technology’s workshop are on its racing field. On New Year’s Day the crews arrived for a gala opening on the start podium only to set off for the introductory racing stage of the 38th year of the legendary rally.

This time all the crews celebrated New Year’s Eve in South America. MKR left for the destination last week. At first, the technology had to be picked up in Buenos Aires and transported about twelve hundred kilometres to the north for the gala start in the Paraguayan capital of Asunción. Everyone was hard at work on New Year’s Eve, as the administrative handovers, the popular tradition of collecting stamps, were scheduled on this date. “There were some heavy rains during the last two weeks but the temperature has reached 35°C again. The weather has gone a little crazy but the team spirits are exceptionally high, the technology is all right and so we are counting down to the start,” commented Mario Kress, chief constructor of the three Renault Trucks.

The world’s most prestigious rally began with Monday’s start in Paraguay, which is already the twenty-ninth country in the history and fifth one on the South American continent which the race has included on its schedule. However, the crews are not going to spend much time here. The racing trucks are going to head to Resistencia in Argentina right away. The crews are about to start in a 450km stage, out of which almost forty comprise the special stage. MKR Technology fans will be closely watching trucks 506 and 510 of Mammoet Rallysport piloted by Martin van den Brink and Pascal de Baar, respectively, as well as Riwald Dakar Team’s 524 with Gert Huzink at the steering. Van den Brink’s special Renault Sherpa will be carrying the Roudnice based mechanic Daniel Kozlovský on board.

The rally will reach its peak in Buenos Aires after twelve stages on Saturday 14 January.
