Two North Bohemian Renaults finished in the second leg of the Dakar Rally in the top ten. Pilots Pascal de Baar and Martin van den Brink in second leg with demanding navigation got eighth, and ninth place respectively. Thanks to this result the former one reached the top ten in overall ranking. All four special truck from Židovice are in the finish line without any major scars.
“We didn't sleep all night to repair the broken axle on Gert's truck. We made it, but it is a pity how much time Gert has lost on the first day because all the four guys went well in the second day, ” Mario Kress, head of MKR Technology's engineering team, reported from Saudi Arabia.
The second stage from Al Wajh to Neom was four hundred kilometres long and nearly three hundred and seventy were timed section. This time, the fastest was Belarus Viazovich, who tackled mostly solid terrain in three and three quarters of an hour. The second Russian Sotnikov lost less than two minutes. Three North Bohemian trucks finished around top ten. Quick ride got the best-placed Pascal de Baar to the eighth place. His fellow Martin van den Brink crossed the finish hot on his heels. Dakar's first hybrid truck with Gert Huzink eventually finished twelfth. Richard de Groot of Firemen Dakar Team was classified nineteenth. “Gert wandered a bit off course today, Martin changed the tire twice. Despite a difficult start, however, all four crews are very satisfied, ”Mario Kress described the situation.
After Monday's victory, Belarus Viazovich moved to the lead. The second Sotnikov is back by more than four minutes. Pascal de Baar of the Riwald Dakar Team made it to the top ten and is losing less than an hour. De Groot is sixteenth, van den Brink is down two positions and Gert Huzink is thirty-second after troubles and a 12-hour penalty in the first stage.
On Tuesday, the third stage - a loop starting and ending in Neom - is four hundred and ninety kilometres long. Timed special section has over four hundred kilometres. Crews will be riding mostly over sandy surface, but they will meet many canyons and mountains as well. The stage will get them on the border with Jordan, but more importantly, to the highest point at an altitude of 1400 meters.
