The last race test of this year's Rallye Morocco brought silver for the North Bohemian truck from the MKR Technology workshop. Even this time, the crew no doubt can speak about bad luck, which is following them throughout the race. Hi reached the finish line in first position, but the organizers shortened the stage, so the ranking was calculated from the point where pilot Gert Huzink was driving in second place. But in the end, the finish line brought a happy ending.
“To sum it up, it was the most demanding and hardest race I have ever experienced. Everyone in the team was digging deep, we are dead," Mario Kress, lead designer of the hybrid special truck from his MKR Technology workshop in Chvalín, breathed a sigh of relief at the finish line.
Rally Morocco is over, the final 5th stage took the crews from Tan Tan to Agadir. The timed special section was originally supposed to be less than three hundred kilometers long, but for safety reasons the organizers shortened the stage due to the fog. The time on the scoreboard thus stopped at the penultimate waypoint, where pilot Martin Macík was in the lead. Gert Huzink with his hybrid Renault lost less than two minutes to him. The Dutch formation with Czech roots closed this year's Moroccan rally with a stage silver position.
In the overall classification, Martin Macík only strengthened his overall lead and became this year's winner in the truck category. Gert Huzink was sixth after all the hardships. "We've had a truly extraordinary week that has shown us how tough rallying can still be. It was a great lesson in terms of the data and experience gained. The Moroccan rally was supposed to be mainly about testing and preparing for the Dakar, and we definitely have a lot of incentives to work on. But a big thank you goes to the guys who worked tirelessly and to the crew who fought despite all the pitfalls of the difficult course," Mario Kress, head of the MKR Technology design team, summed up this year's Moroccan Rally.
