With a half-hour lead over the second truck, North Bohemian truck from the MKR Technology workshop wins the introductory stage of the Rally Morocco. In hot weather, the Dutch pilot Gert Huzink left behind the Czech driver Martin Macík.
"It's a great start, but I'm happy to point out that this race is considered as a big test for the Dakar. We all test what the technology can handle. We keep resetting it and pushing hard. We are happy with the result in this case, but it is not so important. It is essential to drive as many race kilometers as possible” Mario Kress, head of the MKR Technology team, and designer of the winning Renault for the Dutch rider is playing down the result
Saturday's first stage followed Friday's prologue that only determined the order at the Saturday’s start. This time the race clock was on. The crews had to complete a loop from Zagora with four hundred and forty kilometers with almost two hundred and ninety kilometers of special sections. Right at the beginning of the stage competitors went through the dunes of Chegaga Erg, one of the two main Sahara ergs in Morocco - a cluster of desert dunes in the southeast of the country near the Algerian border. Alternating sandy and hard sections then followed. On the way back, the stage went on hard surface with rocky, winding passages and finished just ten kilometers before the bivouac. Despite the victory, Gert Huzink reached the finish line with cracked front suspension.
Sunday's 2nd stage is a loop, almost six hundred kilometers long, with three hundred and twenty kilometers of special sections.
