Unprecedented bad luck befell a North Bohemian truck right at the opening stage of the Morocco Rally. After Saturday's silver position in prologue, pilot Gert Huzink was leading in the Sunday's 1st stage when he had to stop his special trick because of a damaged rear axle.
"It was a very hard, but also very fast stage. There were a lot of large stones hidden on the sandy roads, and just one of them badly hit the rear axle. Rather than risk it, the guys stopped and waited for help. Not only could they pun in danger themselves, but they could also damage the truck even more. Of course, such a start is a nightmare, but we will continue to test the technology as much as possible," commented disappointed Mario Kress, the lead designer of the first Dakar hybrid truck in the world. And Gert Huzink is now driving this truck at Moroccan rally after a series of innovations.
The Renault race truck from the workshop of the Chvalín team MKR Technology took silver in the opening prologue. In the 1st regular stage, however, he fought his way to the front, but between the first and second waypoint, due to technical problems with the rear axle, he had to make an unplanned stop, and there the chances of an overall success have evaporated. The mechanical support meant a significant penalty, which pushed Huzink back down in the overall standings. Dutchman Zuurmond won the 476 km long stage from Agadir to Tan Tan.
The race continues on Monday with the 2nd stage from Tan Tan to Laayoune, the stage is almost four hundred and forty kilometers long, including almost three hundred and twenty kilometers of timed sections.
