MKR tested in Alps

High altitude and a lack of oxygen. Two interconnected elements which have a major impact on the performance of an engine. The upocoming Dakar event will take place exactly in conditions like that and the MKR Technology take no chances in getting ready for it. That is why the constructors’ team from the North of Bohemia and their Dakar special ventured to the French Alps for some proper stress testing.

            “We’ve been struggling with the engine setting quite a bit this year. We had set out some goals in this respect that we weren’t able to fulfil yet. Although we were convinced that the technology has undergone maximum testing and completed a number of extremely difficult kilometres, suddenly, as the race started, it betrayed us. Those were moments of disappointment we don’t want to experience again. In order to be able to go two steps forward, sometimes you just need to take one step back, that’s why we decided to improve some configurations. Tests in high altitudes help us fine-tune the truck even more,” explained Mario Kress, the MKR Technology chief constructor.

            The team were testing their Renault Trucks special in an altitude over 3,500 metres above sea level. The French Alps helped us simulate the process in off the road where the engine lacks necessary oxygen. The “thin” air in the mountains has a profound effect on its very performance. The Dakar rally in January will take the crews to the mountains for nearly a week. Also we are getting closer to the end of November when the teams will ship their technology to the venue, so it must be properly tested and adjusted. “We’re very happy with the results. We know our trucks have what it takes to fight for the highest ranks, but we also need the luck which has been avoiding us so far this year. However, we’re doing our best to help it...,” summed up Mario Kress.
