At last! The MKR team triumphed in the fourth stage of the Libya Rally. After three days of misfortunes the team is celebrating a fantastic win and jumps up in the overall ranking, in which the crew including a crew mechanic from Roudnice currently occupies fourth place.
“The things we've been going through here were a nightmare. The technology is working great. The modifications that we've done and we're now testing in Morocco have turned out to be really beneficial. We're going in the right direction, but then defects and stupid penalty time drag us down. Although winning here is not our goal, when we know that we have it in us, why should we not fight for it? I dare say that with this truck we're able to make up for the lost time and, at the end, have a reason to celebrate. Of course assuming that everything's going to work 100% from now on,“ commented Mario Kress, boss of the North Bohemia based MKR Technology, whose Renault Trucks special is piloted by the Dutch Martin van den Brink in the Libya Rally.
Not only did the Dutch pilot prove his racing skills in the fourth episode, but he also showed his gentlemanly manners. The stage saw the Portugal pilot Elisabete Jasinto, driving in the lead of the trucks category at that moment, in crisis. Her special got turned over in the dunes and it was Martin van den Brink who returned the adventurous female racer back on her wheels. “A gentleman never leaves a lady in trouble. Although we were chasing every minute, we wanted to make our mark. We had nothing to lose,“ commented Mammoet Rallysport's pilot Martin van den Brink.
The North Bohemia based special with number 501 crossed the finish line with a twenty-minute lead on their Dutch fellow Jose Smink on second. In the overall ranking van den Brink is currently on fourth place, losing one and half hours on the leader Bouwens from Belgium. The crews have three stages left to go. Stage five from Mhamid to Merzouga stretches over the distance of three hundred and fifty kilometres.
