This year’s edition of Silk Way Rally will be completely different. Last year, the racers had to go through three states, this year they will spend in Russia completely. The race was shortened from original two weeks into just one week. This will make the fight for victory more intense. Team MKR Technology from Northern Bohemia will send two trucks to this year Silk Way Rally.
“Organizers of Silk Way planned first part of Silk Way in Russia and the second part in China. Crews should have been transported by a big Antonov carrier airplane. And here lies the problem. The landing runway for such a big load could not be built in time.”explained Klára Kress, manager of North-Bohemian MKR Technology.
Organizers came up with an idea that they would keep the original dates and make a difficult rally only in Russia, and the second rally will follow in September in China called Silk Way China. So the crews will face seven hard days in July in Russia. Rally will start with a ceremony on 20th July. A day later, first of seven stages takes place. In seven days, the race finishes in Moscow. The teams have to tackle 2.500 off-road kilometres and will face Kalmykia desert. Organizers promise hard race especially in terms of navigation. Sand dunes will not be as big as in China, but the crews will face them right from the beginning. Silk Way will start with a loop around Astrakhan, more precisely in Taker desert, one of Kalmykia jewels, a region visited almost ten years ago during first editions of this rally, where third stage takes place.
North-bohemian team will have two Renault Trucks in this race. Dutch pilots Martin van den Brink (Mammoet Rally Sport) and Gert Huzink (Riwald Dakar) will be driving these trucks.
