As hard to believe as it is, a total of three defects slowed down the Dutch-Czech crew in the second sage of the Libya Rally. As a result, the truck constructed in the MKR Technology workshop finished „only“ on sixth place despite having taken the lead a few times during the race.
“We had a hell of a run of bad luck there. Simply speaking, this time the fortune simply did not favour us. The stage was full of stones and unfortunately, we punched a tyre three times, which cost us a lot of time on the track. Otherwise we would be satisfied because the truck goes really fast and we had a shot at winning the whole stage. However, in rally races you need a solid portion of luck, so hopefully there'll be more of it in the following stages,“ summed up Mario Kress, MKR Technology‘s chief constructor, day two of the race.
The real competition was opened only with the second stage, because the official racing day one was cancelled due to an error in the GPS system setting, and so the first results came in only with stage two. Martin van den Brink with the crew mechanic Daniel Kozlovský started from the first place. Subsequently, they were stopped by three defects in a row on the very narrow and technically demanding track. Eventually, the crew crossed the finish line on sixth with a more than one-hour loss on the winner Jose Smink.
Stage three is 415km long and will take the crews from Icht to Mhamid.
