The North Bohemian team MKR Technology completed the last big tests before the famous Dakar. Four days of hard testing in sandy conditions in Poland showed the team's readiness for the next edition. Now all that remains is to fine-tune the details and wait.
"We've been testing a lot since the end of the summer. We have completed two major tests. First in France and last week in Poland. These were two completely different localities, which differed in their conditions. France was hard and rocky surface, while in Poland we tested the readiness for fine sand and the behaviour of trucks in the dunes," said Lucie Povová, manager of the North Bohemian design team MKR Technology.
This time, the technicians of Mario Kress team focused on the cushioning and suspension of the racing special trucks. "We are working on cushioning of the impact and on overall stability. In order to do this, we were fine-tuning the engine, its speed and tested its power under different conditions," conjected Lucie Povová.
Dutch pilots, who will be riding Kress' Renaults during the January rally - Gert Huzink and Pascal de Baar -, took part in the multi-day testing. "They were both excited about the results. They shared their feelings with Mario, and together they managed to do a lot of work during those days. The atmosphere was great and everyone was already looking forward to the racing part. That’s why are doing all this," said Povová.
This time, fans of the Czech-Dutch formation could follow the last big testing before the Dakar in Poland. Some of them were very lucky and they could have a seat in the race truck. "It is not common for us to be able to meet our fans at all or meet them in person. It worked out this time. Everything worked as should, the weather was good too, and so we all took advantage of this extraordinary moment, because so many fans came to see us" the team manager was very happy. She also shared typical reactions: "People were afraid at first. People felt respect from the Dakar truck, but both pilots are excellent and provided an unforgettable experience for everyone, so the people were excited."
Testing in Poland closed this year's preparations for the new racing season, which will start in January by the famous Dakar. "Now we have only classic maintenance, otherwise the trucks are ready. Of course, there is still some nervousness about what it really will be like. The last season was strongly affected and disrupted by current conditions in the world, but everyone is already excited. We worked in difficult conditions, we followed the regulations and we hope that we can start racing again," added Lucie Povová from MKR Technology.
