The North Bohemian team closed this year's Rally Morocco with a victory. The truck of the Dutch pilot Gert Huzink from Riwald Dakar team finished the final 5th stage in the fastest time and overall got second position.
"Gert is very satisfied. Were it not for the problems with the shock absorbers in the third stage, we would have taken the overall victory as well, but we were in Morocco not because of that. Above all, we managed to test everything we had planned and we see shortcomings that we need to work on. Otherwise, the hybrid truck worked very well," said Daniel Kozlovský, mechanic of the MKR Technology team from Roudnice, who took care of Huzink's racing special on the spot with his colleagues after reaching the finish line in Zagora.
In the final 5th stage, 444 kilometers with three hundred kilometers of timed sections were planned for the crews. However, the organizers decided to shorten the final stage of the 21st edition. But the thirty-kilometer section in the dunes of Erg Chegag was still a challenge. Gert Huzink and his Renault from Mario Kress' workshop needed just over two hours to tackle the course. His fellow countryman and overall winner Gerrit Zuurmond lost half an hour to him. Martin Macík suffered a cracked tank and headed for the bivouac prematurely.
The Dutchman Zuurmond was happy with the overall victory. Gert Huzink, the second man in the overall classification, scored three victories in five stages with his Renault Trucks C460 hybrid truck. "The Moroccan rally was an important step to final preparations for the January Dakar. This applies to us as well as virtually for all the crews," concluded Mario Kress, lead designer and head of the MKR Technology team.
