One of the world's longest and most difficult rallies - the famous Silk Way - will start this weekend in Russia this weekend. Truck from the workshop of the North Bohemian engineer team, MKR Technology, will be on the start line as well. The Dutch pilot Martin van den Brink will driving it.
“With regard to the development of new racing trucks, only one of our trucks will start the Silk Way rally. Martin will sit in a Renault Trucks CBH truck, which we call Sherpa. This year's Silk Way will be completely different than in previous years, so we are curious about its course. It will be long and challenging” said the head of the team from Židovice, Mario Kress.
The Dutchman Martin van den Brink will be flying the flag of Mammoet Rallysport in his favorite special truck with the experienced navigator Wouter de Graaf. Mitchel van den Brink, his son, is the third in the cabin. The crew will start with the number 301. In total, the race has ten stages and more than five thousand kilometers, of which more than half are measured. The program begins with Friday's handover and continues on Saturday night opening ceremony in Irkutsk on Speranskyi Square. The Rally will start on Sunday with the shortest two-hundred-fifty-five-kilometer-long stage in which the riders get to the deepest lake in the world, Baikal, and reach the first bivouac. While racers will struggle with the challenge of new regions, viewers will be able to watch them on their way through eastern Siberia, Russian taiga, Mongolian steppe, Chinese plains and sands of the Gobi Desert. This year's Silk Way rally runs through three states - Russia, Mongolia and China. The closing ceremony will take place on Tuesday, July 16, in the picturesque town of Dunhuang, right at the foot of the high dunes. “The organizers chose the most demanding geographic areas with terrain for rally. This year, the race course will traverse five climatic zones,” said Mario Kress.
Sunday's opening stage will shake everyone up on the start. Fifty kilometers of timed sections traveled along the narrow roads of the Siberian taiga. On the first kilometers, the track is hard and rocky. There are forest roads, river beds and dusty Siberian hills, after which everyone can relax in a pleasant bivouac, located directly on the shore of Lake Baikal.
