MKR Technology’s trucks add yet another podium double! In stage five of the Morocco Desert Challenge the crews switched the positions they have arrived at the finishing line until now, as it was Gert Huzink on Renault Truck K520 who thrived in the demanding sand dunes.
“Gert was happy with the behaviour of the trambus special in the dunes already the day before. However, stage five was all about the sand dunes. From start to finish it consisted of four extremely tough sections, where Gert merely put in use his skills and the abilities of his truck,” says Mario Kress, MKR Technology’s constructor, with satisfaction.
Fifth day of the rally finished in the Merzouga bivouac, but the crews had to complete more than 200km loop in the Erg Chebbi area. In the place nicknamed ‘the pearl of Morocco’ it was Riwald Dakar’s Gert Huzink who gave the best performance in three and half hours. Eleven minutes later he was followed by the Dutch-Czech crew of the Renault Sherpa truck piloted by Martin van den Brink and the crew mechanic Daniel Kozlovský. As a result, the MKR Technology constructors’ team have recorded a third podium double in this year’s race.
Yet another success increased the leader’s Martin van den Brink’s solid margin. His team mate Huzink on the second and the Portuguese Jacinto on third place lose two and half and three and half hours, respectively.
The crews have two more stages to go. With 405km Saturday’s episode six from Merzouga to Tendrara is the longest test of this year.
