Martin van den Brink is gold again. The Dutch pilot in the cockpit of north Bohemian Renault shined in the 6thstage of Morocco Desert Challenge. In overall ranking he keeps the second position.
“Martin could have reduced the lead of Loprais significantly today, but he rather decided to help his two colleagues. He first pulled in dunes Gert Huzink from allied team Riwald and afterward also his fellow Janus van Kasteren. With that he lost about quarter an hour,”explained Daniel Kozlovský, mechanics from Roudnice from the designer team MKR Technology.
In Morocco in the 6thstage Van den Brink won for the second time. He gained six minutes over the second Loprais. The third position was won by another Czech, Tomáš Vrátný. Right after him finished another pilot of trucks from Židovice, Gert Huzink and the top ten was terminated by Janus van Kasteren.
The teams had to deal with the last desert stage and crossing of the highest dunes of Morocco Erg Chebbi. “Even though we pulled our mates, we saw Loprais soon, meaning that he had to have some problems as well. Then he left us and we could reduce his lead. Today we are loosing a bit over half an hour, but I am not sure that it could be taken in the following two stages. He would need to make a mistake,”thinks the Dutch pilot van den Brink, that is the second in the overall ranking. His colleague van Kasteren moved to the overall sixth position, Gert Huzink is fourteenth.
Two final stages are left to the finish. On Saturday it is the second longest stage from Boudnib to Matarka, over four hundred kilometers long. The teams will go to deserted valleys and panorama sceneries. The technical road is in the style of WRC.
