Major technical issues came in the way of the turquoise Tatra with our mechanic Daniel Kozlovský on board during the 7th stage of the Dakar Rally. Moreover, the crew had to tackle bad luck right in the midst of the marathon stage, where each truck goes on its own. While none of the crew members was injured, for a long time it was not clear whether they would be able to continue the race.
Our crew mechanic Daniel Kozlovský on Artur Ardavichus’s crew made it to the elite top ten for the first time since this year’s Dakar started. In contrast, Dakar‘s sixth stage brought bad luck to our Dutch pilot Martin van den Brink. His truck’s turbo broke seventy kilometres before the finish line, which resulted in a three-hour-loss and drop from his current position in elite ten. However, a number of crews had to cope with technical problems, and that included Tomáš Vrátný, who wrenched the steering wheel of his truck.
The trucks‘ crews have concluded the fastest timed section of the 37th year. Those racing with our technology support showed their strength and humanity in the fifth stage. Not only are all five trucks of the Czech-Dutch alliance still „in the game“, but they are able to help the others, too.
In stage four, crews of the famed Dakar Rally paid visit to the driest desert on Earth. Fourth day took them to Chile and into the renowned Atacama dunes. These seemed to do good to all the five drivers receiving technical support from our team. Martin van den Brink finished seventh and Tomáš Vrátný lost only two positions on him. The sixteenth truck to finish the stage was Ardavichus’s with our Daniel Kozlovský on board. All of them have moved up the overall ranking.
The crews racing in this year’s Dakar concluded another extremely difficult stage. It almost seems as if the organizers were trying to separate the wheat from the chaff at the very beginning. However, the pilots supported by our technology team fought bravely in the third episode.
Thus year’s Dakar has already let our mechanic Daniel Kozlovský feel how incredibly tough it can get. In the demanding second stage of the famous distance rally the pilot Artur Ardavichus and his crew’s truck turned over to the body side in one of the narrow passages. The crew remained unharmed but finished the stage almost an hour later than the winning Russian Nikolaev. On the other hand, our Renault with the Dutch pilot Martin van den Brink behind the steering wheel almost reached a podium ranking.
This was indeed a very solid start for the crews technically supported by our team at the 37th Dakar Rally. Renault piloted by the Dutch Martin van den Brink came up trumps right at the event‘s start and finished on fifth place, beating all the winners from the past three years. The truck manned by our mechanic Daniel Kozlovský crossed the stage’s finishing line as thirteenth.
The Dakar Rally has officially kicked off. Over a million spectators came to Buenos Aires to see the spectacular prologue show, in which all 406 crews competing in the 37th Dakar Rally this year were welcomed. Presented on the gala podium were also the five crews for whom we have constructed racing technology. Moreover, the unforgettable podium experience was enjoyed by our very own Daniel Kozlovský, the only north-Bohemia native in this year’s racing field.
The fun is over and the heat is on. All team have now completely moved to the location of this year‘s Dakar Rally. The last group departed for Argentina on New Year’s Day afternoon. The toughest and the most renowned distance rally is about to start this upcoming weekend.
The machines have fallen silent and our technology centre is completely quiet now. The Dakar Rally is going to make the upcoming January extremely demanding, and so the end of the year has been reserved for some relax and recovery. This Christmas is truly going to be holidays of peace and quiet for us.
All packed and ready, the technology is on its way to Dakar! Past few weeks have been extremely hectic. Our Dakar specials are in the centre of attention and everyone has bid them farewell. About a thousand people came to see off the Mammoet Rallysport trucks in the Netherlands at the weekend. On Tuesday the Tatras of the Bonver Dakar Project are about to embark on the voyage as well. All technology is due to board at the French Le Havre port on Thursday for more than a month-long voyage to Argentina, where the famous Dakar Rally starts in January.
